Peter Haug

Peter Haug

B.A. LL.B. Accredited Business Law Specialist - Partner

Peter began practising law in 1980.  His focus is commercial law, with an emphasis on franchising, business sales and acquisitions, business structures, business succession, alternative dispute resolution (such as mediation) and commercial leasing.  His in depth knowledge and experience in these areas of law led him to achieve accreditation from the Law Institute of Victoria as a Business Law Specialist in 1996.

His primary areas of expertise are:

  • Franchising: Acting for both franchisors and franchisees in connection with all aspects of franchising, including preparation of Franchise Agreements and Franchise Disclosure Documents, providing advice on entering into a Franchise and providing compliance advice having regard to the Franchising Code of Conduct 1998.  In addition, Peter has successfully represented a number of clients in connection with franchise disputes (both for Franchisor and Franchisee) primarily at Mediation (but also through the Court process).

  • Business Sales and Acquisitions: Acting for vendors and purchasers in connection with the sale and purchase of businesses, including the acquisition and disposal of shares in companies, interests in trusts and interest in partnerships.

  • Business Structures: Advising on the appropriate business structures (such as partnerships, company and/or trusts) as well as business restructuring and “asset protection”.

  • Business Succession: Advising small to medium sized businesses in connection with the need for business succession planning, including the preparation of “Buy/Sell Agreements”.

  • Dispute Resolution: Acting for a party in dispute with his/her “business partner(s)”, and assisting in reaching a sensible commercial settlement without the need to resort to protracted, costly and “uncertain” litigation.

  • Commercial Leasing: Acting for landlords and tenants in commercial leasing transactions including preparation of Lease Disclosure Documentation, Leases, Assignments of Lease, Renewal of Leases, Sub Leases, Premises Licenses and other related documentation.

Peter’s aim is to ensure that the client feels that there has been a tangible benefit in utilising his services.  It follows, that Peter’s approach is not only legal but very much “commercial” as well.

In addition, when confronted with two or more options, Peter does not “sit on the fence” and leave it up to the client to make the final call, but rather is readily prepared to adopt an “If I was in your position, I’d go this way” approach.
